MACE (Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events)

5

Identified Problem

The prevalence of diabetes in Singapore is rising, projected to reach 13.7% by 2030. Uncontrolled diabetes increases the risk of complications, with new cases of heart attacks or strokes expected to rise by 50% to nearly 30,000 annually by 2050. Despite the availability of new diabetes medications and technology, only about a fifth of persons with diabetes achieve optimal control of glucose, blood pressure, and lipid levels. Therapeutic inertia or delays in adjusting therapy when treatment goals are not met is a major barrier.

AI Solution

The Javis AI group developed the Javis mace tool, an AI risk prediction tool, to address this issue. The tool estimates the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) like heart attacks and strokes in persons with type 2 diabetes.

Key Features

  • Developed using data from the SingHealth diabetes registry, which contains data from over 120,000 patients from 2013 onwards.
  • Utilizes advanced machine learning techniques with over 60 parameters reflecting various aspects of a patient’s health.
  • Considers longitudinal data, using patient health information from preceding years to enhance predictive power.
  • Generates individualized risk predictions using the patient’s latest clinical and laboratory data.
  • Provides visualizations of the risk reductions achievable by optimizing diabetes care.

Benefits of AI Solution

  • Improves patients’ awareness of their health and risk of complications.
  • Enables patients and clinicians to make informed treatment decisions.
  • Allows clinicians to better identify at-risk populations.
  • Facilitates personalized discussions with patients about their risk.
  • Enables the provision of preventive care rather than reactive care.

Impact of AI Solution

  • Averts diabetes complications.
  • Potentially gives patients longer, healthier lives.
  • Helps visualize disease trajectories.
  • Provides a way to promote meaningful personalized discussions with patients about their risk.
