Module Description

This foundational module equips you with essential knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and its practical applications. Through the learning materials, you’ll explore how AI and machine learning work, understand their real-world capabilities and limitations, and learn the critical role of human oversight in AI implementation.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the module, you will be able to:

  1. Define the field of AI.
  2. Explain how AI functions at a basic level, including how AI technology is trained to learn from data.
  3. Describe the capabilities and limitations of AI tools.
  4. Recognize the importance of human oversight when using AI.

    Using AI tools can be very helpful, but how useful they are really depends on what you are using them for. AI is still just a tool, and using it effectively requires the user to have some understanding of where the data should come from, what information should be provided, what formulas or methods should be used, and how the analysis should be carried out.

    AI can provide a large amount of data and information very quickly, but it may also make assumptions about what the user is actually looking for. If the instructions, data sources, or objectives are not clear enough, the results may not fully match the user’s real needs.

    At the end of the day, the quality of the outcome still depends on what the user wants to achieve and how well the user understands the data, assumptions, methods, and results provided by the AI.

    AI is useful, but knowledge is even more important. AI can assist with the work, but knowledge allows us to question, understand, verify, and make the right decisions
